When a girl of ten first stepped on stage with the other nine members of her family band, a love was born. From that day to this, there has never been a question about Sharon's love for the music business.

Thousands of songs later by Flatt and Scruggs, Patsy Cline and Loretta have proven that love remains constant. There's no doubt Sharon still enjoys sharing her stories and emotions with appreciative listeners in countless theaters and festival parks.

In the late 1990's Sharon and LOST HIGHWAY were on the same show in Northwest Missouri. A lasting friendship and mutual respect was formed. LOST HIGHWAY asked Sharon to share a recording project. Their first CD was distributed to nationwide radio, even making it's way to Europe were "On My Father's Side" from the "Mom's Old Picture Book" album became a fan favorite. This lead to their collaboration on a second project "From The Heart".

Of course, Sharon has other interests. There's her husband, Ray, their twin sons, Jason and James, and seven grandchildren to keep up with. After their boys graduated high school, Sharon returned to college for a teaching degree and spent a few years in an elementary classroom while maintaining their northwest Missouri farm home.

Numerous trophies and awards now reside in Sharon's home including the 2002 Midwest Regional 'Album of the Year' award from SPBGMA for "Mom's Old Picture Book", plus two more: "Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year" plaques awarded since Picture Book.

The love continues.

After numerous requests from Europe and The United States, Sharon and LOST HIGHWAY decided to record "ONCE MORE". Thank You!

Makin' Memories is the latest of Sharon Graeff's four projects and we think one of her best. Radio DJs tell us they're playing the heck out of it. The project was recorded in Sharon's own WOODSHED RECORDING STUDIO in the spring of 2004.

Musicians on the project are the members of Sharon's Road Band "HERITAGE", No outside help was enlisted. What you hear on this CD/Tape is just what you'll hear when you go to a festival and see Sharon in person.

Matt Allen (Guitar). Is from Cresent, Iowa and formerly played with his mom, dad and brother in the Allen Family band. His guitar playing is distinctive and his high harmony and lead vocals hit the spot. (1989 Large hole Martin D-28)

Barney Moss (Banjo) lives in Blair Nebraska and he plays everything in the band, he's one of those all around guys. When he's not making music, teaching or running his computer consulting firm, he's found working on his website www.banjobarney.com . (playing a Sonny Osborne, Chief banjo)

Max Cooley (Dobro) also live in Nebraska and has been playing music for most of his life. Josh Graves and Jimmy Martin are his idols and it shows in his playing and lead vocals (A Face In The Crowd). Max is a retired over-the-road truck driver. (1935 Dobro)

Ray Graeff (Doghouse Bass) Sharon's husband Ray rounds out the crew singing the bass parts and playing his 1963 ¾ Kay classic bass.

TRACKS

TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG (2:33 BMI) Written by Dooley, Hadley and Welch, is a fast moving, harmony filled expression of what Sharon and the band is capable of.

OLD TIMERS WALTZ (2:38 BMI ) Robert Stanley wrote it and Sharon tells it like she feels it. She grew up playing and singing for many square dances, dances and county fairs where everyone got up and enjoyed waltzing, and she loves to watch them.

I'M THE ONE (4:12 BMI ) Sharon's husband/bassplayer Ray wrote this adaptation of one of his favorites. Long Black Veil is obviously a guy song, so in order to hear one of his favorite stories; he re-wrote the lines so Sharon could do it. This could be what really happened?

SING ME BACK HOME (3:56 BMI ) Merle Haggard wrote this classic, but he sure didn't sing it like this up-tempo, obviously grassed up version. We think he will approve. We think we may have generated another jammers favorite by re-working this to fit right into the bluegrass mould.

MAKING PLANS (3:11 BMI ) Morrison and Russell wrote this one and we're glad. It's one of the memorable songs Sharon first began singing when she made the switch over to bluegrass years ago and the harmony parts are super.

YOU'RE THE ONE FOR ME (2:20 BMI ) Our guitar player Matt Allen wrote and sings this one. We'll let you decide for yourself just who he's talking to. It's a hard driving, quick tempo tune that will have you smiling and tappin your toes.

FAR SIDE BANKS OF JORDAN (2:50 BMI ) Written by Terry Smith. Sharon loves gospel and she fell in love with this song when she heard Willard Cox do it. Maybe we don't do it as well as the Cox Family, but we sure tried. We'll let you decide.

WHAT ABOUT JOSEPH ( AUDIO CLIP ) ( 4:21 BMI ) A Sharon Graeff original song written on one of our long road trips, born by discussions about our gospel efforts. The question arose about folks in general knowing about Jesus and Mary, but what about Joseph? We thought he deserved more recognition for being the husband, step-father and bread winner for the family we all know and love.

STONE COLD HEART (2:36 BMI ) Barnes and Gosden. Another bluegrass jammers favorite often heard out under the trees. The romance may be over, but, the harmony is super.

SLIPPERS WITH WINGS (4:00 BMI ) Randall Hylton. Sharon learned this song years ago for a special little girl that asked her to sing it. It has grown to be one of her most requested songs. Radio DJs tell us that this is the most requested cut on the project. The finger pick guitar, heart-tugging story and soulful voice make this the highpoint. We sure miss you Randall.

A FACE IN THE CROWD (3:14 BMI ) St. Clair and Smith. Our dobro player Max Cooley sings this one, and it demonstrates well another good reason for having him in the band, he's a fine singer.

STEEL RAILS ( 2:20 BMI ) Branscomb. We're always looking for fast moving, up-tempo songs with a great story line to offset all the ballads that Sharon loves to sing. This is it.

MAMA'S MAGIC COOKSTOVE ( 3:11 BMI ) Sharon's Bass playing husband Ray wrote this one and it's a chance for him to brag about some of the fine cooking that he enjoyed growing up on the farm. But… Sharon sings it.

MEMORIES ( 4:08 BMI ) Bobby Osborne. This one's a little long for radio air-play, but we absolutely love it. We've been doing this parlor favorite for years and thought it high time we let you all in on the rich harmonies and soulful rendition.

ARE WE THERE YET ( audio clip ) (2:40 BMI ) Sharon Graeff original. Here's another one that was born on one of our road trips when Ray casually turned to Sharon and said, "Are we there yet, Mommy, huh"? You just know what happened then, she pulled out her tablet and pen and wrote this song.

T-BONE ( 2:06 BMI ) A Barney Moss original instrumental. This medium tempo solo banjo tune has radio intro background written all over it. A neat little tune that demonstrates the fine banjo work Barney is capable of doing.

BY REQUEST. HERITAGE has been in existence fora couple of years now, and we always hear "When are you going to make a HERITAGE CD", or "We'd like an all gospel project". With this project we hope to make a lot of folks happy. We've been able to showcase Sharon, of course, but we've also demonstrated the musical talents and abilities of the whole crew. Rick Vincent's baritone harmony and banjo playing, Jimmy Williams harmonica and lead vocals, Jimmy Campbell's lead and tenor harmony singing plus his great guitar and dobro work. And then there's Ray Graeff (Sharon's husband) on the bass vocals and the dog-house bass.

Sharon has come a long way since she decided to leave her elementary teaching career and move over from a part time singer with various coun- try and bluegrass bands to being a full time musician. This project will be her fourth. Her previous projects with LOST HIGHWAY (from California) have gained her high acclaim since winning the "2002 SPBGMA Midwest Regional ALBUM OF THE YEAR" for "MOM'S OLD PICTURE BOOK", and following her second CD with LOST HIGHWAY, "FROM THE HEART", she won the SPBGMA Regional "TRADITIONAL FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR" for 2003. Both of those plaques now sit proudly in our family room.

We are sincerely grateful for the opportunity to make this CD and demon- strate our abilities to "Minister in Song". We know the compulsion and opportunity to do this gospel project was planned by a far higher power. We hope lots of folks "get the message", just by listening to our efforts. We truly appreciate the encouragement and support we have received from everyone. THANK YOU

TRACK LIST

WHILE I'M GONE - Shows the drive that the combination of Lost Highway and Sharon have and it sure moves right along. "Don't stay out in the moonlight for too long" D. Sowards wrote it and we're glad of it. 2:27 BMI

I NEVER WANTED THE ROSES - Ken Orrick wrote.."I Can't Afford The Roses", but even though Sharon liked the song, it was obviously a Guy song. Sooooo Sharon wrote her own version of the song and used it to reply to the theme of Ken's effort…. It worked pretty good and they spoof one another occasionally when they do a show together…..3:22 BMI

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT I LOVE YOU - A lot of folks think of this one as a country song…. But, Don Reno wrote it, and he's sure enough Bluegrass. Besides, Sharon liked it a lot…. ‘Nuff said. 3:36 BMI

BRINGING MARY HOME - This classic ghost story is a great tale by John Duffey and crew…. Just a little different twist, since it's usually sung by the guys. Sorry Guys, it's not just for you anymore. 3:41 BMI

I'LL BE THERE - A smooth Ray Price/Rusty Gabbard tune that says it all. No matter what happens Sharon will be there for you. 2:27 BMI

GOD ON A MOUNTAIN - Just in case you sometimes forget that God is always there for you, we'll just gently remind you… OK…. Dottie Rambo wrote it… Thanks 3:31

I'LL BE ALL SMILES TONIGHT - Here's an oldie… written by A.P.Carter and one of those timeless favorites that we love to hear whether on stage or under the trees. 4:00 BMI

AND THE LITTLE BOY CRIED - Sharon's husband Ray wrote this one, and he was angry when he penned it. After watching a news report about Afghanistan and 3 casualties this day, they listed the ones killed and #1, #2 and #3. Our fighting men and women who give their lives for our country are not numbers, they are someone's son or daughter, and they have suffered all the usual pains and trials of life, just like you and I. Let us not forget. Ken Orrick sings it. 3:09 BMI

I WOULDN'T CHANGE YOU IF I COULD - Sharon always gets kidded on stage by her husband Ray that she sings this song just for him. Somehow I don't think that is the case. Anyway it's a great song by Jim Eanes. 2:28 BMI

SINGING WATERFALL - This one is really country, and Sharon and her brothers and sisters sang it often growing up in a musical family. It's a sad story, but it reminds us to make the best of all situations. Fred Rose/Hank Williams 2:45 BMI

CASTING STONES - Can you fall in love with a song, the first time you hear it? Sharon did, and she tries her best to do justice to this song which is an example of how Jesus said we should lead our lives. D. Gaskins 3:58 BMI

PRETTY WREATH FOR MOTHER'S GRAVE - Sharon has some dear friends that always request that Sharon sing this song for them. We hope that means that there is a special message here, and that Sharon tells it well. Don Reno 3:30

This project was recorded at Ray and Sharon's home in Stewartsville, Missouri (WOODSHED STUDIO is in their home), and mixed and mastered by Lost Highway's mandolin player Eric Uglum in his NEW WINE STUDIO in Hesperia, California.

Many thanks also to Jack Ferguson of Iowa for using his talents on the Dobro to give it just that special touch.

Sharon's brother, Chad Elifrits was borrowed from Sharon's Road Band "HERITAGE".

We hope you will see Sharon soon at your local festival, either with HERITAGE, or with her buddies LOST HIGHWAY. Either way, be sure to shake and howdy. We love it.

I WISH YOU KNEW. A Charlie and Ira Louvin traditional grass song that moves right along. The musicianship and harmony of LOST HIGHWAY is well demonstrated and the fit and polish of the harmony blended with Sharon's lead, captures the attention of the listener.

"Mom's Old Picture Book" takes the 2002 Regional SPBGMA - Album of the Year
THE DEEPENING SNOW. The only Waltz on the project gives the listener time to appreciate that little country curl in Sharon's voice. Some have called it a "sob" and combined with the words of this Harlan Howard song make this pull right on the ol heart string.

MOTHER'S GRAVE. Right before the writer "Ernie Bishop" passed away he approached Sharon and said. "I want you to do one thing for me, before I die... your voice was meant to sing Mother's Grave and I'd like for you to do it on the project I know you're working on." Well, Ernie died before he heard the finished CD, but we know he's up there listening and smiling. Ernie....Thanks for a great heart wrenching song that we know will become a bluegrass standard in the future.

MOM'S OLD PICTURE BOOK. Sharon is a sucker for the family oriented songs and has a picture of Mom's old picture book in her mind as she tells about things in her life that are told vividly in this song.

VELVET LINED COFFIN. Written by Sharon's guitar player "Dwight Murdy"... the song is about an old guitar.... or is it? "I want a velvet lined coffin made for two... when I go home".

FLOWERS AND STONE. (RealAudio) Sharon's husband Ray wrote this one, and after the passing of his Mom... he reminds us to honor and be kind to your mother....now. "She'll answer you not from the graveyard, when you speak to the flowers and stone".

ON MY FATHER'S SIDE (RealAudio). Sharon's most requested song written by Felicia Shifflett. This question and answer song is about Jesus and his days on this green earth.

ARCHTOP SILVERTONE. (RealAudio) A true story about Sharon's Dad. The 10 children in her family would trick ol dad into playing with them in the evenings by intentionally singing the wrong words or tune to a standard song. His reply every time was.."Here, let me show you how it goes".

CANDLE IN THE WIND. Pete Goble/Leroy Drum song. "Where is the boy with the slingshot, that guarded to home way back then..... He's gone like a candle in the wind". Don't wait too long to go home....

HE CARRIED ME. Another true song from Sharon's life. In her Mom's last days she said. "Don't cry for me, you know that God has carried me through all the days of my life... and he'll do it tomorrow too".

JUST LIKE YOU. Another of "HERITAGE'S" Most requested songs. A Hot Rize remake that always makes folks think about their friends and family that are now in a rest home or lonely apartment somewhere...

FIFTY YEARS. Sharon's husband Ray, wrote this one for a family friends fiftieth wedding anniversary. "It seems like yesterday. when we stood before our Lord, and gave our hearts away".

I'LL COME RUNNIN. (RealAudio) After listening to the writer, Connie Smith, do this one on the "Opry". We just had to "grass it" and put it on the CD. Thanks Connie!
